How to Choose Sensorimotor Exercises

How the NeckCare System assesses and trains cervical sensorimotor function using a structured sensorimotor grid.

Assessments

Each sensorimotor assessment available in the NeckCare System can be mapped onto the sensorimotor grid shown below (Figure 1).

Figure 1

The sensorimotor grid is a structured framework that categorizes cervical sensorimotor function into four core components and six subcomponents. Each subcomponent represents a distinct physiological capability/skill that can be assessed and trained (Table 1).

Table 1

There are currently two sensorimotor assessments available in the NeckCare System, each assessing different subcomponents on the grid (Figure 2)(Table 2-3).

Exercises

The sensorimotor exercises available in the NeckCare System (Table 4).

Each exercise targets one or more sensorimotor subcomponents based on the primary physiological capability it is intended to train. This mapping ensures that exercises are selected based on identified subcomponent deficits. Exercises are prescribed to target sensorimotor subcomponents that are identified as impaired during assessment.
