Joint Position Error Test

This section explains the Joint Position Error (JPE) Exercise, which is used to train cervical spine proprioception by having patients return to a target position after movement.

 

JPE Exercise (Joint Position Error Exercise)

 

Purpose

Train proprioception of the cervical spine. Patient practices relocating to a target position after movement with eyes closed.

 

Setup Options

Movement directions: Flexion, Extension, Rotation Left, Rotation Right

Target offset: 0° (center), 20°, or 40°

Default: All directions, 3 reps each, 0° offset

 

Unsupervised Procedure

Patient follows sound indicators to know when return position is marked. May open eyes to reposition, then close eyes for next trial.
