Overview of NeckCare Home Exercises
NeckCare Home includes four exercises that can be assigned to a patient as part of a customized program. Each exercise can be configured with different difficulty levels, movement directions, or repetitions. This article describes what each exercise does and the configuration options available.
Butterfly Exercise
The Butterfly Exercise targets movement control of the cervical spine. The patient follows a moving target on the screen using head movements, with a cursor controlled by head position. The target moves along an invisible trajectory at variable velocity.
Configuration options:
- Difficulty levels: Easy, Medium, Hard
- Repetitions: select per difficulty level
Default: All three difficulty levels, 1 repetition each.
Butterfly Visible Path Exercise
The Butterfly Visible Path Exercise is a variant of the Butterfly Exercise in which the trajectory of the target is visible on the screen. This provides the patient with a visual reference of the path the target will follow.
Configuration options:
- Difficulty levels: Easy, Medium, Hard
- Repetitions: select per difficulty level
Default: Easy, 1 repetition.
Dot Hunt Exercise
The Dot Hunt Exercise involves the patient locating recurring dots on the screen using head movements.
Configuration options:
- Difficulty levels
- Repetitions: select per difficulty level
Default: All difficulty levels, 1 repetition each.
Joint Position Error Exercise
The Joint Position Error Exercise targets cervical proprioception. The patient moves the head to the maximum range in a selected direction, then attempts to return to the starting position with eyes closed. Sound indicators signal when a return position has been marked, allowing the patient to perform the exercise without a supervising clinician.
Configuration options:
- Movement directions: Flexion, Extension, Rotation Left, Rotation Right
- Repetitions: select per direction
- Target offset: 0° (center), 20°, or 40°
Default: All four movement directions, 3 repetitions each, 0° offset.
